Rehabilitation After a Stroke

According to the American Society of Neurorehabilitation, stroke is the leading cause of adult disability. Having a stroke can lead to inactivity, deconditioning, and increase the risk for another cardiovascular event.1 Additionally, it is very common to have residual weakness, trouble walking, and difficulty balancing. All three of these issues can pose a safety risk, especially when it comes to falls. As physical therapists, we are movement specialists who are trained to help with strength, balance, coordination, and gait to allow you to be as safe as possible.
  • At Coastal Orthopedics, we can:
  • Monitor blood pressure and incorporate lifestyle management for stroke risk factors into individualized treatment
  • Improve strength necessary to complete activities of daily living with our full gym and performance center
  • Assist with gait training to help you walk more confidently
  • Work on balance to promote safety and confidence
  • Increase cardiovascular fitness with various machines such as a treadmill, stationary bike, or rowing machine
  • Communicate with your primary care physician, neurologist, or other health care providers
If you have recently had a stroke and would like to come in to see one of our therapists, please give our office a call at 207-442-0325.
