Coastal Orthopedics Sports Medicine & Physical Therapy is your Mid-Coast expert for orthopedic and sports physical therapy. Coastal Ortho Physical Therapy clinicians are trained in a variety of techniques and interventions. Certifications and training include instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization, dry needling, spinal manipulation, concussion management, and vestibular rehabilitation. Unique to our practice is our quality-care model, utilizing 45-minute one-on-one appointments with both private and open concept treatment rooms. Dry Needling

Dry needling is an evidence-based intervention utilized for the treatment of pain and dysfunction in the musculoskeletal system. It is performed by physical therapists, or other qualified professionals, using a filiform needle, which is inserted into the skin to target trigger points within a muscle. Other structures that may be targeted include tendons, ligaments, bones, transitions between muscles and tendons, transitions between tendons and bones, and around nerve pathways in the body.

About Our Physical Therapists

Patrick Nelson, PT, MS, CSCS

Patrick Nelson, PT, MS, SCS, CSCS is the Physical Therapy and Coastal Performance Center Director. He earned a Master of Science in Physical Therapy degree with honors from Northeastern University in 2004, where he specialized in orthopedic and sports rehabilitation. He then received his certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist from the NSCA in 2006. In 2009, Patrick launched our first sports medicine specialty clinic at Universe Gym in Bath, Maine, and in 2010 he developed the Coastal Performance Program to serve local athletes. Since then he has been working in the clinic, on the field, and in the gym with local high school, college, and club teams for injury prevention and evidence-based performance training. In 2016, Patrick earned his board certification in Sports Physical Therapy through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. He is one of only four board certified sports specialists in the state of Maine. Patrick has lectured locally and throughout the northeast to teams, fitness professionals, students, and healthcare providers on functional movement and assessment in fitness and rehabilitation. Patrick has been with Coastal Ortho since 2004.

Dan Doherty, PT, MS, TPI

Dan Doherty, PT, MS, TPI obtained his Master of Science in Physical Therapy degree from Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions in 1998 with a 13 month internship at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston. He has worked in a variety of settings including orthopedics, chronic pain management, onsite industrial rehabilitation, and has been published in several studies regarding functional recovery after strokes. Dan joined Coastal Ortho in 2007 and is currently the Clinical Manager of our orthopedic department. His interests include management of the unstable shoulder, joint replacements, as well as manual therapy interventions to assist with peripheral joint pain. He is the Center Coordinator of Clinical Education managing and assigning students within our physical therapy department. Dan’s treatment approaches include components stemming from continuing education topics such as Kinesiotaping, Mulligan mobilizations, the Selective Functional Movement Assessment, and the Postural Restoration Institute. He is also TPI certified through the Titleist Performance Institute and utilizes this knowledge to assist patients in returning to and improving their golf game.

Lisa Burdick, PTA

Lisa Burdick, PTA is a licensed physical therapy assistant with an Associate’s degree from Kennebec Valley Community College, graduating in 2000 with the highest academic honors in her class. She has attended several continuing education classes including Functional Movement Screen, Selective Functional Movement Assessment, Certified Functional Strength Coach, Mulligan Mobilization with Movement, and Postural Respiration from the Postural Restoration Institute, along with several other evidence-based orthopedic courses. Lisa’s treatment approach integrates techniques from functional movement patterning and postural respiration concepts with special interests in postural dysfunction, post-operative rehabilitation, and the elder care population. She worked in the acute care and skilled nursing facility settings before joining the Coastal Ortho team in 2003.

Shawn Paquette, PT, DPT, OCS, CSCS

Shawn Paquette, PT, DPT, OCS, CSCS received his Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Exercise Science from the University of New England in 2009 and his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of New England in 2012. He also became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist in 2009. In 2023, Shawn became Board-Certified as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist. Shawn treats a variety of musculoskeletal conditions, though he has special clinical interests in non-operative and post-operative rehabilitation of the shoulder as well as rehabilitation after total joint replacement. Shawn joined the Coastal Ortho team in 2012.

Brian Bisson, PT, DPT, CSCS, NSCA-CPT

Brian Bisson, PT, DPT, CSCS, NSCA-CPT is a licensed physical therapist with a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree and is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Brian obtained his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of New England in 2013. Brian is certified in Dry Needling (Cert-DN) through the American Academy of Manipulative Therapy. His clinical interests include non-operative and post-operative rehabilitation of the shoulder and treatment of the overhead throwing athlete. Brian’s treatment approach focuses on concepts of postural movement dysfunctions taught by the Postural Restoration Institute to treat a wide variety of acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions. Brian joined the Coastal Ortho team in 2013.

Amy Farrell, PT, MS, ATC, CSCS

Amy Farrell, PT, MS, ATC, CSCS graduated with a BS in Exercise Physiology in 1996 while participating in the Athletic Training Internship program from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. She went on to receive her MS in Physical Therapy in 1998.me to add paragraph to your block, write your own text and edit me. She has spent the majority of her career working in outpatient settings, focusing on orthopedics, sports medicine, concussion management, and vestibular therapy. Since joining Coastal Orthopedics in 2013, Amy has been working with local physicians and athletic trainers to develop a concussion management program for those patients dealing with residual symptoms of concussion, including cervical dysfunction, headaches, visual disturbance, balance deficits, and dizziness. She enjoys treating patients of all ages and with varying diagnoses. Amy joined the Coastal Ortho team in 2013.

Adam King, PT, DPT

Adam King, PT, DPT received his Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Exercise Science from the University of New England in 2015 and his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of New England in 2018. Adam has special clinical interests in non-operative and post-operative treatment of the knee and shoulder. Adam enjoys working with patients of all ages and strives to regain pain-free, functional movement. He believes in open communication between him and his patients in order to provide the most thorough and patient centered care. Adam joined the Coastal Ortho team in 2021.

Erica Skolnekovich, PT

Erica joined the Coastal Ortho team as a per diem physical therapist in 2021.

Amin Saab, PT, MS

Amin Saab, MSPT, earned his Masters of Science Degree in Physical Therapy from the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions in 1997. Amin has extensive experience in outpatient orthopedic care of pre and post-operative patients, as well as particular interests in managing runners and triathletes in rehabilitation. He has taken continuing education courses in McKenzie, Mulligan and Paris regarding the Low Back, Shoulder and Hip rehabilitation. Amin uses his knowledge in evidence based practice to help restore patients levels of function towards independence. Additionally, Amin has experience in vestibular and balance oriented rehabilitation. He participates in running marathons and triathlons, and in helping other athletes to advance their performance in these sports. Amin joined the Coastal Orthopedics in 2010.

Tracy Spaulding , PTA

Tracy Spaulding, PTA is a licensed physical therapy assistant with an associate's degree from Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida, graduating in 2000. With over two decades of experience, she brings a diverse and integrative approach to rehabilitation and movement therapy. Tracy has completed a wide range of continuing education courses, including FMS (Functional Movement screen), Mulligan's Mobilization with Movement (MWM), the CT School of Integrative Manual Therapy (IMT), and Anatomy Trains Structural Integration for the hip and pelvis. Her ongoing education reflects her commitment to evidence-based, functional care. Her treatment philosophy blends techniques from functional movement training, pilates methodology, active release, and various myofascial release approaches. Tracy is especially interested in the biomechanics of the shoulders, hips and feet, helping to restore mobility and improve strength through individualized, hands-on care. She has worked primarily in outpatient settings across Florida and Maine, and also brings experience from skilled nursing facilitates, home health, acute care, and rehabilitation hospitals. Tracy's compassionate and skilled approach makes her a trusted provider for people navigating pain, injury recovery, or performance goals. Tracy joined the Coastal Orthopedics in 2025.

Darien Moser, PT, DPT

Darien Moser, PT, DPT, is a licensed physical therapist with a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of New England in 2017. She has also received her Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and Physical Education from the University of Maine in 2014. While at UMaine she was on the women’s cross country, indoor and outdoor track teams. Darien enjoys treating a variety of musculoskeletal conditions, with special clinical interests including non-operative and post-operative rehabilitation of the shoulder, hip and knee. She has competed additional training in vestibular rehabilitation, dry needling (IDN), and Mulligan concept manual techniques. Darien joined the Coastal Ortho team in 2021.
